Mt Rosa Pinot Noir 2017
Winemaking
Hand selected from various specific clones in our single estate vineyard in Gibbston, and hand harvested over six days between 21st April and 1st May 2017.
75% de-stemmed fruit and 25% whole bunch fermentation was done primarily for its contribution to the texture giving roundness, complexity and tannin.
Indigenous yeast was used to ferment the wines to dryness. The wines were hand plunged two times a day and spent an average of 25 days on skins to extract tannin, colour and aromatics.
The wines were then gently drained and pressed to 225L French oak barriques of which 20% were new French oak. They were then rested and matured for ten months on yeast lees with malolactic fermentation in Spring.
Tasting Notes
Dark fruit, blackcurrant, spice and violet aromatics lead to an elegant mineral infused palate showing vibrancy, depth and poise.
Optimum Drinking
Now through till at least 2028.

NEW RELEASE: Mt Rosa 2024 Pinot Noir Clone Unknown
From our ‘mystery vines’, this single vineyard Pinot Noir is bright and energetic, bursting with red fruit and wild herb aromatics. It’s vibrant, textural, and unmistakenly Gibbston.
Meet your 2024 Summer Pinot Noir!
Made in a Beaujolais-inspired style with stainless steel fermentation and a little time in oak, this Pinot Noir is light on its feet, yet full of personality!
Think wild red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, intertwined with hints of wild herb, forest floor and subtle spice.
It’s an energetic Pinot Noir that we’re currently enjoying chilled during these warmer days. The flavour bursts out of the glass and we love it with a little bit of beetroot-cured salmon and a dollop of dill cream…. oh yeah, afternoon made!
This is the last year that we will be producing this single clone beauty.

Gibbston, Central Otago | Single Vineyard
Tasting Note
Appearance: Bright ruby.
Aroma: Redcurrant, blackberry and wild herb with subtle floral lift.
Palate: Medium-bodied with fine, silky tannins. Vibrant red fruit is layered with savoury spice and gentle warmth, showing freshness, balance and poise.
Finish: Long, refined and persistent.
Vintage
The 2021 Gibbston vintage delivered low yields and excellent concentration. A cool, settled summer and long ripening period allowed flavours to develop slowly, retaining natural acidity and finesse while building structure and depth.
Winemaking
Hand-picked fruit was fermented in stainless steel with 35% whole bunches and 65% destemmed berries. Following a four-day cold soak, fermentation ran for 19 days with gentle extraction. The wine matured for 10 months in French oak, 18% new, before bottling.
Food Pairing
Roast duck, lamb, mushroom dishes, chargrilled vegetables or aged cheeses.
